Wednesday, June 15, 2011 Our very own pig in a blanket
In order to both support the pork industry and raise money for the Food Bank for the Heartland, a nonprofit organization that serves more than 300 food pantries and shelters in Nebraska and western Iowa, Bader Rutter’s Lincoln, Neb. office is participating in the Pigs on Parade public art project this summer. The project is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Nebraska Pork Producers Association (NPGA), and afforded Bader Rutter the opportunity to decorate a 2-foot-tall fiberglass pig. What an assignment!
The Bader Rutter pig, nicknamed “Pig in a Blanket,” was painted by Midtown Paint in Lincoln. Bob Shriner, VP and associate creative director in the Lincoln office, embellished the base, hooves, ears and snout. Bob’s wife, Diane, used her expert sewing skills to stitch a large pancake and fried egg that comprise her blanket. Pig in a Blanket is currently on display in all her glory at Tavern on the Square, a local tavern, until the NPPA’s 50th anniversary celebration on September 24, called One Big Night. Proceeds from an auction will benefit Food Bank for the Heartland to fight hunger.
We’ll let you know how much Pig in a Blanket fetches at auction. But if you’re in Lincoln between now and late September, be sure to drop by Tavern on the Square and get a good look at Bader Rutter’s handiwork.
