After Hours: A lifelong love of choral music

My parents love telling the story of how, while other kids were bringing in baseball card and doll collections for Kindergarten show and tell, I insisted on preparing a song. As I got older, I was fortunate to attend a high school with an incredible arts program. There, I learned to be in tune with the other voices around me and to use my voice to blend and harmonize as the piece required. It was often a soul-stirring experience.

It was also music that introduced me to my vocation — a local ad agency hired my high school ensemble to create the vocal tracks for a TV commercial. I was chosen to participate and from that point on I knew that marketing was for me.

Though I have been dedicated to my marketing pursuits throughout college and my career, I have always made time to indulge my love of music and I still do today. I like to think that my experience with music has made me a better marketer and maybe a better person: in the discipline it has taught me; in the sensitivity it has nurtured in me; and in the life perspective it has given me.

This series tells the stories of how our associates fuel their creativity, after hours.
